Alternative Rock Festival Is Moving to Jersey Shore (Asbury Park)

A British alternative music festival, When All Tomorrow’s Parties, came to the US in 2008.  The festival landed in an unusual spot – Kutsher’s Country Club in Monticello.  Kutsher’s Country Club is one of the last old Catskills resorts and the location brought interesting yet quaint ambiance for very loud performances like My Bloody Valentine and Sunn O))).  All Tomorrow’s Parties is now moving from NY to the Jersey Shore this year!  Landing in Asbury Park, the 3-day lineup, beginning September 30, includes  ”two big bookings that confirm the festival’s reputation for returing lost hereos to the spotlight.  Jeff Mangum of the band Neutral Milk Hotel will play his first major show in a decade, and the British trip-hop band Portishead will make its first East Coast appearance in 13 years.”

The events will be held at the Convention Hall and the adjacent Paramount Theater, on the Asbury Park boardwalk.  The Convention Hall in Asbury Park holds 3,600 people, and the Paramount 1,600, which is larger that the past venue.  With a less of a distant locale and larger venue, the cost per ticket can be lower and draw a larger following.

The NY Post reports that Jeff Mangum’s appearance, at the Paramount, “is one of the most anticipated events in indie rock in years. His band’s 1998 album, “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea,” has become a classic of the genre, but the group went on hiatus not long afterward, and Mr. Mangum largely withdrew from the public eye. When he made a brief appearance at a New York benefit show last May, audience members openly wept.”

Tickets for the festival are on sale at atpfestival.com.  Asbury Park is very excited to have such an event come to the Jersey Shore.  With the ecclentic, eccentric, and forward thinking mentality of Asbury Park, All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival is the perfect event to spotlight the area!
